About Universal Therapeutic Massage Institute, Inc.
History of UTMI
Mary Jo Jones founded Universal Therapeutic Massage Institute, Inc. in 1993. It was Mary Jo's wish to create a school that was centered on the student's growth as an individual.
Part of Universal's philosophy is to ensure that our students are capable of working in any professional environment or, if they choose to, they are well prepared to open their own private practice.
About Our Program
It is our goal to ensure that each student master our program in its entirety with a clear, concise and thorough understanding of massage therapy and its applications. The result is a graduate who is not only skilled and confident, but creative as well. We are confident that we provide this little extra touch.
For this reason, we have designed our Therapeutic Massage course to include 35 semester credit hours (720 contact hours) of education. This consists of 570 hours of classroom instruction and 150 hours of supervised Clinical Practicum Internship. All textbooks in Massage Therapy, Anatomy and Physiology, and Business and Ethics can be purchased through the school. Our qualified caring instructors are thorough, detailed and dedicated. Lectures and demonstrations are given and students will receive hands-on experience with the guidance of our instructors.
The entire Therapeutic Massage course can be completed in 8.5 months for the day or afternoon course, and 10.5 months for the evening course. However, students are allowed up to 12 months to complete the day and afternoon courses, and 15 months for the evening course. Also included in this portion of the program is the application of good business practices, ethics and professionalism in relation to massage therapy itself.
Upon completion, the graduate can feel confident that he or she will be fully prepared to pass the State's examination and license requirements, and will be equipped with all the tools to pursue a wonderfully satisfying and highly rewarding career.
Mission Statement:
The mission of Universal Therapeutic Massage Institute Inc. is to provide students with sufficient training that enables graduates to work in the field of Massage Therapy in an entry-level position or open a practice of their own.
