Admissions / Academic Policies

Upon completion of this course of study, it is our goal that the student will be trained to enter the field of Massage Therapy in an entry level position, and be prepared to pass all the licensing requirements to become a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of New Mexico. The entire 670 hour course can be completed in 8 months for the day or afternoon course, and 10 months for the evening course. However, students are allowed up to 12 months to complete the day and afternoon courses, and 15 months for the evening course.

Admission Requirements
UTMI is an open-door school, which invites students to develop to their fullest potential. Students are admitted based upon a high school diploma or the possession of a GED certificate, without regard to gender, race, color, religion, creed, national origin, age, or sexual orientation.

Potential students with physical challenges must consult with a physician and the administrator to determine if the challenge will interfere with their ability to do massage. While we are able to work with most students with learning disabilities, you will want to review the Anatomy and Physiology exams to see if you feel capable of learning the material.

Applicants must be at least 17 years of age when they begin school. They must be 18 by their expected completion date. The applicant must acknowledge that he or she will adhere to the student codes of conduct and ethics enacted by UTMI.

Anyone who has been convicted of a felony should contact the school for information concerning licensing.

Normal admissions procedures require that students visit the school for a personal interview with an admissions representative. An enrollment agreement is completed, and the student receives a copy at the time it is signed.

Applications for the diploma program are accepted throughout the year. New classes begin monthly for morning, afternoon or evening programs.

Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Late admissions may be considered on an individual basis taking into consideration availability of space.

Changes in Program and Tuition Charges
UTMI reserves the right to add or delete certain subjects from the program as circumstances may require, and to modify tuition rates. The program contents, training materials and schedule may be changed by the school without notice with no additional expenses to the student except for expendable supplies.

Tuition changes in programs are bona fide, effective on specific dates and applicable to all that enroll thereafter. Tuition for students presently in school is changed only if authorized in the enrollment agreement.

  2. Completion of the appropriate number of credits / hours for the diploma awarded
  3. All financial, academic and other obligations to the school must be taken care of before a diploma will be issued and transcripts sent to the state.
